Together
with indomitable producers Sly Dunbar & Robbie Shakespeare, Black
Uhuru produced some of the most memorable post-Marley reggae. Their
sound, more than most of their contemporaries, incorporates current Western sounds
(e.g.
synthesizers) to good effect. Their pro-Rasta, pro-Ganga, liberal stance rings
truer than most. Liberation: The Island Anthology is great, two CDs
of non-stop brilliance. Almost as good, and more affordable, is Hip-O's Ultimate Collection. Sinsemilla and Red stand
out among their many individual albums.
