Buckeye
Bobby
Bare's first boffo biscuit, "The All American
Boy," was recorded under the nom-du-disque Bill
Parsons for the Cincinnati-based Fraternity label (thankfully
available along with many other great and now-obscure
US 45's on Volume 3 of the presently 8-volume Golden
Age of American Rock and Roll on UK Ace). He's
had huge pop hits in a style best described as "pop-folk"
("Detroit City" and "500 Miles")
and has a knack for piking classic material like Tom
T. Hall's "Margie's At the Lincoln Park Inn"
and "That's How I Got To Memphis" as well
as tuneage by the late great Shel Silverstein ("Marie
Laveau" and "Daddy What If?"). If'n
you crave some Bobby Bare, go for the label-spanning
Best Of Bobby Bare on Razor & Tie. (Charlie
