Along
with a few others - Gary Stewart, Red Stegall, and
Mel Street immediately spring from the canyons of this
mind - Moe
Bandy was a 'Keeper Of The Flame" for the
spirit of hard core honky-tonk, cheatin' and drinkin'
music at a time (early 70's to mid-80's) before any
of the current revivalists began currently reviving
the genre. Originally he recorded for GRC where he
had his most memorable hits, "Bandy the Rodeo
Clown" (which he indeed once was) and "I
Just Started Hating Cheatin' Songs Today." Later
at Columbia he waxed "It's A Cheatin' Situation"
with Janie Fricke (recently covered by both Dale Watson/Kelly
Willis and John Prine/Dolores Keane) and some very
popular novelty numbers with Joe Stampley (Moe &
Joe) Razor & Tie has licensed the big hits from
both labels to make a 20-track CD called Honky
Tonk Amnesia: The Hard Country Sound of Moe Bandy.
Classic stuff!!! (Charlie Burton)
