Concrete
Blonde's Jonette Napolitano fancies herself a sort of Anne Rice/Exene Cervenka/Janis
Joplin hybrid, but, sorry to say, it ain't happenin', sister. She's capable of
great things, particularly when she and her band really cut loose, but too often
she comes across as self-conscious and self-impressed. Their best CDs are their
second (the hard-hitting Free) and third (the more artful Bloodletting),
while the anthology Recollection: The Best Of... does a good job of
summing things up despite some "alternative" - that is, not as good
- versions of their best songs.
