Somewhere between
Dinosaur Jr. and the Replacements (in the same neighborhood as Soul Asylum or the
pre-MTV Goo Goo Dolls) sits Buffalo
Tom. Their albums have shown great improvement, but they just don't consistently
write great pop songs. They write good songs, true, but not ones that stick in your
head for days. That being the case, I can recommend their six CDs provisionally.
If you like that sound, go for it (especially Let Me Come Over and Big
Red Letter Day). Otherwise, proceed with caution. (I own them all, by the way.)
The rest of you can pick up A-Sides From 1988-1999 and get most of the memorable
tracks.
