The
Buckinghams
are significant for two things. Their hit "Kind
Of A Drag" was a monster, a huge smash that oozed
kinetic energy and smarmy sensuality. More important
historically, they were the immediate precursor of
the group Chicago. The Buckinghams' producer Jim Guercia
saw promise in the band's horn driven rock, and his
vision eventually resulted the sales of millions of
record albums (for Chicago, not the Buckinghams). The
original group also hailed from the Windy City, and
their bright, infectious sound yielded several more
hits and memorable tracks. Sony/Legacy's Mercy
Mercy Mercy (A Collection) has them all.
