When you look up "girl group" in the dictionary, a picture of the Cookies will probably be there (where they may very well be dukin' it out with the Angels and the Shangri-Las...). The Cookies' hits personified the sound (Tin Pan Alley pop crossed with rock & roll) and the attitude ("my boy is everything to me, so stay away from my boy") of girl groups everywhere. It was so sweet and yet so bitchy and self-involved - kind of like teenage girls themselves! "Chains" and "Don't Say Nothing Bad About My Baby" were the hits, but if you are a fan of the sound (or of Gerry Goffin & Carole King's songwriting), pick up The Complete Cookies on Sequel - the only decent Cookies CD ever released.
