Benton is remembered for "Rainy Night In Georgia," a raw but calculated
slice of southern soul. The song, though, was a fluke, a one-hit comeback from
a much earlier, much longer career. Benton had an impressive string of supper club
soul hits that, at times, were more supper club than soul. Benton's deep, rich
baritone could carry them off, however, and his best songs, like "It's Just
A Matter Of Time" and "Baby (You've Got What It Takes)," impart
