Easily
one of the best lounge revival bands, Combustible
Edison has recorded three discs for grunge bastion
Sub Pop Records. The band (featuring former Christmas
singer Liz Cox as Miss Lily Banquette) approaches their
music with a cheeky good humor, but they can really
play. Combustible Edison credibly recreated the genuine
sound of exotica, and their records stack up pretty
well against those of Martin Denny, Yma Sumac, Esquivel,
or Les Baxter. I'd grab a martini and listen to their
debut, I Swinger, then see if you want to
proceed - I suspect you will. The group's music was
also prominently featured in the film Four Rooms.
