It's
a shame that there are only a few CDs currently available
by the great pianist Eubie
Blake. Blake, born in 1883, began playing ragtime
when the music was born, and he continued to keep the
art form alive until his passing just five days after
his 100th birthday, with his prodigious skills at the
keyboard undiminished. Along the way, he wrote such
classic tunes as "Charleston Rag," "Memories
of You" and "I'm Just Wild About Harry."
Biograph's Memories of You, which features
piano rolls cut early in Blake's career, is the best
title available in a criminally neglected oeuvre. (Karl
