The Clash rightfully
earned a reputation as "the only band that mattered," but,
sadly, they flamed out quickly. Little significant came of the band after they
hit it big; they splintered into several pieces, the most successful of which
was Big
Audio Dynamite. This was Mick Jones' hip hop experiment - briefly
including Joe Strummer, too. They produced several decent albums, though no one
but Clash-o-phile completists needs them all. Rather, Planet Bad: Greatest
Hits presents an astute selection of the band's best jams - audio pastiches
like "E=MC2," "C'mon Every Beatbox," and "Rush" -
all the B.A.D. you'll ever need. So, pick it up and spend the money you save
on Clash records. You'll be glad you did.
